Technofan is led by technological innovation in ventilation and keep being recognized for its dynamism in the field of research and development.
With a team of 70 engineers and technicians, the Technofan Design office has the means to cover the entire development cycle of its products for all trades they consist of.
Added to this is an internal testing laboratory for development phases and formal verification. Belonging to Safran also offers privileged access to the Group's networks of experts.
Lastly, Technofan has developed relationships with manufacturers, research laboratories and universities. Today, this allows it to benefit from a strong partner network with which it collaborates on projects.
The innovation challenge
Technofan's position as a world leader is based on its ability to innovate and differentiate itself technologically while maintaining economic competitiveness.
With more than 11 new patent applications filed in 2014, Technofan contributes, in its scale, to positioning Safran among the main French depositors.
These technological innovations, one of whose recurring themes is more electric aircraft, cover topics ranging from acoustics to power electronics and include mechanical engineering, aerodynamics, magnetism and heat. These are the wealth of trades that make up our products. The goal? Provide our customers with solutions that are lighter and more reliable, have better yields, make less noise, include new features, have lower cost of ownership, and are environmentally friendly.
But innovation is not made only incremental technologies or breakthroughs. It is also a state of mind that aims to always remain agile in a world where the processes and requirements are becoming increasingly complex.
Technofan has filed several patents every years and aims to develop advanced technologies to anticipate customers' needs.
Technofan has developed a range of compact high-power and high-performance electric motors for aeronautical applications dedicated to the traction and driving of loads.
This equipment, which incorporates the latest technology, contributes to the development of "more electric" aircraft and helicopters. It allows high power densities that are essential for future modes of transport to be reached.
These applications cover a wide power range, from a few kW to around one hundred kW, and offer a significant rotation speed range (from 5,000 to 180,000 revolutions per minute).
Weight and cost savings are now possible following the design of electric motor architectures with integrated electronics, developed thanks to Group synergies.
Thermal stresses on new high power engines developed by Technofan led to optimization of their thermal architecture.
Technofan's expertise in the world of ventilation has helped design a cooling solution with high-performance forced convection for each engine.

This system integrated into the fan presents many advantages: saving of weight and volume compared to existing solutions. This is an integrated system on an electronic card which shows no wire connection between the measuring element and the sensor.
Health Monitoring functions via use of a vibration measurement performed at the electronic card and allows the FFT of the vibration signal to be calculated. It has the ability to detect a damaged bearing through increased vibration on specific frequency bands.
